The region of Kupiskis is situated in the eastern part of Lithuania. With the territory of 1080 sq. km, it borders the regions of Panevezys, Birzai, Rokiskis and Anyksciai.
The population of the area is 23,900 people. The centre of the region has been established in the town of Kupiskis, the population of which is 8200 people, 97.4% of them are Lithuanians.
The region contains 19 lakes, 31 rivers and 32 artificial basins. Kupiskis was named after the River Kupa, which flows through its territory.
Forests cover the territory of 27400 ha; swamps take another 3697 ha and the moor of Sepeta 776.7 ha.
400 objects in the area have been enlisted as ob¬jects of cultural heritage.


KUPISKIS COUNTRY

Geographically a part of Aukstaitija, the area of Kupiskis boasts a unique landscape, natural and historical monuments, distinctive folklore and interesting customs, and its own dialect taken from a Baltic tribe called Seliai and preserved up to nowadays.
